SURVEY:
Our first questions was just to distinguish the fact that the sample answering the questions are either majority male or female. From this question we can see that roughly and equal amount of both genders have taken this survey meaning that the answers to the rest of our questions will apply to both genders.
|
We asked our survey participants how often they watch a film with a mystery genre so that we can have an indication as to people enjoy watching mystery films and this will show if our film genre has a big audience or not and if not then we might consider changing the genre. However in our survey we found out that 10% never watch mystery films, 36% rarely, however the majority of our participants totaling to 53% watch between 1 to 4 or more films of the mystery genre a month. This shows that one in two people within our age group watch an average of 2-3 mystery films a month which means our teaser trailer will be interesting to most of our age group.
|
We realised from our as work that asking people what genre they like is pointless because it always turns out to be Action, Adventure and Comedy according to previous surveys and research on type of films watched by our age group. So we decided to ask what genres you don't like and what is your lease favourite. Surprisingly mystery was only dislikes by 10% of our sample and no one dislikes crime and detective films which is a sub genre for our teaser trailer which means our teaser trailer is most likely to be liked by our age group.
|
We asked this questions to firstly find our if our sample have watch films that are similar to our story-line. Seeing that more that 80% of our sample have seen one of the three films shows that we have a good story-line. Due to Se7en being most watch we will try to use similar techniques that the film makers for Se7en used in their best scene.
|
In this question we asked what pace the teaser trailer should be. We wanted a bit of both in our trailer and mainly we wanted it to be fast paced by displaying scenes for 3-5 seconds. Our question results support our idea which means will be having a majority of the trailer to be fast paced with some sections slow down to create effect.

REAL MEDIA TEXTS/INSPIRATIONAL MOVIES:
WARRIOR:
Warrior has a narrative which is quite similar to the one we as a group had decided. The youngest son of an alcoholic former boxer returns home, where he's trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament - a path that puts the fighter on a collision course with his estranged, older brother. Our narrative is almost similar to this one, as we have two characters which are brothers and also have an issue between themselves. However, there is a scenario which brings the two back together and re-unite. |
THE JUDGE:
The Judge follows a narrative about a family which were broken due to past issues. Moreover, the son from the family hears that his mother has passed away, the family now begins to investigate the death of her mother which had helped to bring the broken family back together like it should've been from the start. This really relates to the story line our film goes by, where a member of the family has passed away and had brought two broken brothers back together leaving their past issues behind them. |
SE7EN:
The film is about a retired detective and newly transferred police officer are dealing with a serial killer who is targeting people he thinks represent one of the seven deadly sins. This very successful film grossed $327 million at the box office internationally. This American neo-noir psychological thriller horror movie was directed by David Fincher, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director. Bollywood directors were so inspired by this film that they chose to recreate it in a film called ‘Samay- when time strikes’. Seven a mystery style of film based on two brothers who are ex detectives on a mission to find a sadistic serial killer who chooses his victims according to the seven deadly sins. The mystery side of the film really relates to the idea we have, where two brothers are both on a mission to find out how their father passes away and who was the cause of the loss. The mystery builds up throughout the film as there are many people that fingers could be pointed at, however the guilty one must be found. Moreover, the film taking place in a nameless city really builds the confusion on where the film is actually set. I believe the idea of the city being nameless really contributes to the confusion towards the audience, and makes them question where or who this serial killer could be. The most imperative part of Se7en, on the other hand, is that it keeps the gathering of people various strides behind its story, as a contradiction to other thrillers, which become predictable and bland by the end. |

LOCATIONS:
South Ealing Cemetery
This is where we will shoot the scene of Sofia's funeral and where the two brothers will see each other for the first time in years. We chose this Cemetery specifically because of how large the area was and also the scenery which we found looked good, and we believed it would be massively helpful for our Mise-en-scene. |
